New Albany Court Docket Searches
Begin at Indiana MyCase, the state's free public portal. Its court selector lists Floyd County. New Albany Municipal Court does not appear as its own choice. The city is the county seat rather than a separate court tier. A case or citation number gives the cleanest search every time. A name search works too. But common names force you to compare court, case type, status, and file date before you trust a match.
- Choose the Case, Name, or Attorney tab.
- Select Floyd County instead of All Odyssey Courts.
- Use CR, CV, FAM, or PR when known.
- Open the match and inspect its court code and events.
- Confirm an unclear setting with the named court.
Searching MyCase costs nothing. Very broad searches can hit the result limit, and repeated activity can trigger a captcha. If a common-name search stalls, trim a category or a date range instead of widening it.
New Albany's Courthouse Role
The 2020 Census incorporated-place table puts 37,841 people in New Albany. The city holds both municipal offices and Floyd County court offices. Those are distinct public bodies, and the distinction matters. County courts and the unified Clerk operate at 311 Hauss Square. New Albany City Hall sits at 142 East Main Street, and the City Clerk works from Suite 114 at the City-County Building. A New Albany address alone never tells you which office holds the record.
Two official pages anchor the split. The official city site covers city services. The state Floyd court page links MyCase, local rules, statistics, and e-filing.
Room numbers sort out offices inside the shared civic complex. The Clerk sits in Room 235. Circuit has an office in Room 413. The court directory lists Room 417 for the courtroom. Superior 1 is in Room 200. Superior 2 is in Room 425. Superior 3 is in Room 421. None of these rooms is a separate search system. They matter after MyCase names the assigned court. Then a person must confirm a setting, inspect a file, or request a copy. Check the case header first, so City Clerk business never lands at a trial-court counter.
Inside New Albany Court Records
No active New Albany municipal court shows up in MyCase. It does not appear on the official Odyssey court list either. State cases filed in Circuit or Superior court appear under Floyd County. The active codes are 22C01 for Circuit and 22D01, 22D02, and 22D03 for Superior Courts 1 through 3. Code 22E01 is archived and marked abolished. So an old record can carry a code that no longer matches any current city court.
Assignment follows case type and local rules, never a New Albany neighborhood. Superior 2 commonly takes traffic infractions, many vehicle cases, small claims, and residential evictions. Circuit handles probate, estate, trust, adoption, guardianship, and juvenile work. The result header controls.
City Clerk or County Clerk
The New Albany City Clerk keeps municipal records and points to city routes for parking, ordinance payments, and traffic diversion. That office holds no Floyd Circuit or Superior files. For trial-court filings, copies, and certifications, use the Floyd County Clerk in Room 235 at 311 Hauss Square.
| Question | Start here |
|---|---|
| City meeting or ordinance file | New Albany City Clerk |
| Parking or city diversion matter | City instructions |
| Circuit or Superior filing | Floyd County Clerk |
| Certified court copy | Floyd County Clerk |
Say who created the record before you ask for it. That single fact often saves a trip to the wrong New Albany counter.
Finding New Albany Court Dates
A New Albany setting usually shows up as a hearing event in the Chronological Case Summary. That is the CCS. Read the session date and time together with the court, the judicial officer, the result, and any cancellation status. One caution: an event date may only record a filing. It is not always the next hearing. An appear-by date printed on a citation is not a full calendar entry either.
| Date | Session date attached to the hearing. |
|---|---|
| Time | Session time, not a filing timestamp. |
| Courtroom | Room tied to the assigned Floyd court. |
| Judge | Judicial officer listed for the setting. |
| Setting Type | Arraignment, pretrial, trial, or compliance. |
The county events calendar is not a court schedule. If a New Albany event looks canceled, continued, or stale, call the court. A requested continuance changes nothing until the judge grants it.
New Albany Civic Record Routes
The official City Clerk page names the municipal office for New Albany city records and payment routes.

That page separates a city service from the Floyd court custodian of county case files.
The official New Albany homepage identifies City Hall and city departments.

City Hall is a civic starting point, but a court filing still belongs with the county Clerk.
The Census place table supplies the population context.

The city count does not create a separate judicial district.
New Albany Traffic Ticket Lookups
Search a county citation in MyCase under Floyd County, or use Indiana Traffic Pay. New tickets reach the Clerk slowly. The Floyd Clerk warns that an officer report can take up to 14 days. The state portal advises retrying until at least ten business days have passed. Treat both as caution periods rather than guaranteed posting dates.
New Albany parking, ordinance-payment, and city diversion channels differ from a Superior 2 CCS. They are not the same record. Paying through a city route does not by itself create a county result. For the county process, see Floyd County Traffic Court. A challenge or a date change follows the court's rules, not the payment screen.
Reading a New Albany CCS
Think of the CCS as a dated log of events for a New Albany case in Odyssey. Filings, notices, hearings, orders, payments, and disposition all show up as entries. It is not every document, so a missing link proves nothing about whether a document exists.
- Cause number
- The identifier used to search and request a file.
- Court code
- C01 or D01 through D03 identifies the Floyd court.
- File date
- The date the case entered the system.
- Disposition
- An outcome entry, sometimes without the full order.
- Converted event
- A legacy marker that may carry limited online detail.
A charge stays an allegation until disposition and judgment fix an outcome. MyCase also warns that its financial information can run incomplete, so confirm balances and certified outcomes with the Clerk.
How New Albany Cases Reach County
New Albany sits inside the Floyd County trial-court system. The real question is which Floyd court took a state case, not whether it rose from a city court. Local rules divide the work among Circuit and Superior Courts 1, 2, and 3. Provisions for related cases, probation, and problem-solving dockets can pull a case away from the division you expected.
Docket flow: New Albany incident or filing › Floyd County Clerk › assigned Circuit or Superior Court › Indiana appellate court if appealed
Federal cases travel a different road. The Southern District of Indiana runs a New Albany Division. Yet its records live in PACER and CM/ECF rather than MyCase. The Floyd County court docket lays out the countywide route. The federal courthouse at 121 West Spring Street is another way an address-based search misleads. A federal cause number never appears in Indiana's state selector. Read the heading on the paperwork first. A United States District Court caption points to PACER or the federal Clerk. A Floyd Circuit or Superior caption points to MyCase and the county Clerk. Bankruptcy runs through its own federal system too. Starting with the jurisdiction named on a notice saves time. It also keeps municipal, state, and federal records from being lumped together. Each of them shares only a New Albany tie.
Certified New Albany Court Copies
MyCase printouts carry no certification. Before you call the Clerk, gather the cause number, the court, the filing or event, the date range, the format, and whether certification is required. The published fee schedule charges one dollar per page plus three dollars for certification. Confirm current cost and payment terms first.
- Identify the court in the result header.
- Name the document or event.
- Request a plain or certified copy.
- Confirm fees and delivery.
- Ask the court reporter for a transcript.
The records staff can also work through older New Albany files whose converted histories run thin. Narrow details get faster, more reliable results.
Who Can See New Albany Records
Indiana court records are generally open under Administrative Rule 4. Remote viewing still does not reach every piece of a file. Rule 5 shields confidential classes and personal data. Juvenile, mental-health, treatment, probation, problem-solving, expungement, victim, witness, and child information may be limited. Even a public case can hold one confidential document.
Key Rules:
Administrative Rule 4 starts with public access unless another rule excludes a record.
Administrative Rule 9 governs calendars and remote access.
Indiana Code 5-14-3-3 allows reasonably particular inspection and copy requests, subject to exemptions.
MyCase leaves out protection-order cases entirely. So a blank result is not proof of sealing; ask whether the file is restricted, sealed, offline, or simply blocked from remote access.
Verify New Albany Case Details
MyCase is a public index, not the official record. Verify urgent details with the court named in the case header: Circuit at 812-948-5455, Superior 1 at 812-948-5450, Superior 2 at 812-948-5488, and Superior 3 at 812-948-5257. The unified Clerk is 812-948-5411. Call when the CCS does not show whether a session was held or reset.
Best clue: The case number and assigned court code control a New Albany record. The city name is geographic context, not a MyCase court choice.
With old cases, give a narrow date range. A missing online document was not necessarily destroyed. Do not assume it was sealed either. If no cause number survives, offer the style, the approximate file year, the case type, and any known party role. Staff can then separate a legacy paper file from an electronic summary. For a transcript, name the hearing date and assigned court. That gets the request to the right court reporter. For a certified order, ask for that exact order rather than the whole case. These details cut ambiguity and help the custodian quote the right copy fee.
Floyd's active courts adopted Odyssey in 2009. Superior 3 entered in early January. Circuit and Superior Courts 1 and 2 followed in February. That history explains one thing: why a modern New Albany case has structured fields and document indicators. An older case instead shows sparse converted events. It sets no firm online-availability cutoff. Keep any former cause number or cross-reference from old papers. The Clerk can tell whether the underlying file is electronic, retained on paper, publicly inspectable, or under a specific restriction.
County assignment clues can sharpen a New Albany search. A small claim or a residential eviction usually heads toward Superior 2. Probate and estate matters point toward Circuit. Protection orders are different. That case class never appears in MyCase, so the search runs through the separate state registry, and Superior 3 is the local assignment. Use these clues to pick a contact after a search. The case header still controls. Related-case rules can also shift the expected division. When the city notice, the MyCase category, and the court code disagree, keep each identifier and ask the unified Clerk to reconcile them. Never assume a city payment receipt closed a county case, or that a missing online document erased the underlying filing.
